Packing for two: one set each, a color each

Two people, one trip, and sometimes one case. Somewhere in the middle of the week, one of you is looking for socks on the other one's side. One set each, in two different colors, settles that before you leave the house.

Pick a color each

The cubes and pouches come in Grey, Burgundy or Hot Pink. Take one color each. From then on the rule needs no explaining: your clothes go in your color. When the case opens, you see two colors in rows and reach only for yours.

The three storage bags are frosted and see-through in every set, so both sets' bags look alike. You can see through them, and you know your own shoes.

Lay out two piles, not one

The night before, each of you lays out your own clothes on your own side of the bed and sorts them by kind: trousers, tops, socks and underwear, sleepwear. Count against the nights. For five nights, a working list for each of you is six tops, two pairs of trousers, six pairs of socks, six pairs of underwear and one sweater.

Then each person fills their own pieces: trousers and the sweater in the large cube, tops in the medium cube, socks and underwear in the small cube, shoes in the large bag. Each of you takes only the pieces your own clothes need.

Sharing one case

Measure the inside of the case and check it against the cube sizes, which are listed in inches. Then split the case: one side yours, one side theirs. Both bags of shoes go in first, at the wheel end. Each person's cubes follow, largest first, mesh tops up.

One pouch for the shared things

Some things belong to the trip, not to either of you: the plug adapter, the spare charger, the printed tickets. Put them in one small pouch and agree whose color it is. Then there is one place to look and one person to ask.

Two cases, same map

If you each have a case, pack them the same way: tops in the medium cube, socks in the small cube, chargers in the small pouch, shoes in the large bag. Then either of you can find the other's sweater without asking where it went.

At the other end

Split the drawers by color: one drawer each, or yours on the left and theirs on the right. Each cube lifts in by its side handle and sits in the drawer as it is, mesh up. The chargers pouch goes on your side of the bed, the shared pouch on the desk.

Keep a laundry bag each. The medium frosted bag does the job. Worn clothes go into your own, so they come home already sorted, and the wash starts from two bags instead of one heap on the floor.

Packing for the way home

Each of you lifts your own cubes back into the case. A cube that has been emptied collapses flat and goes in the lid. Your color goes back on your side, and the case comes home in the order it left.

Traveling as three

There are three colors, so a family of three can take one each: Grey, Burgundy and Hot Pink. The rule is the same. Your color, your clothes.
